5 Tips for Spring Workshop Organising

Spring is the time to dig deep and discover your inner Marie Kondo, and like that famous organisation guru, ask yourself “does this workshop spark joy?”

Is that chipped ruler still capable of producing a straight line? Are those shabby and torn posters still capable of inspiring our future captains of industry? Are those haphazardly placed tools easy to find and store?

If not, then this article is for you! School spring organising

Tip 1: Transform your classroom / workshop

For some classrooms and workshops a simple sweep and polish will just not do. You will need to transform your space into an organised oasis of learning.

Without organisation, the question “Where did I put that?” will oft be on thy lips. OK, we’ve all asked this question at some point. - busy day, little time to pack things up - but, there is an easy, and visually striking way to tackle this issue.

Custom made Shadow boards

Tools for Schools offer Ready-Made and Custom-Made shadow boards for your tools. That’s right, custom-made shadowboards! Your school’s colours. Your school’s emblem and motto. Even your school’s tools.

Our in-house design team are ready to help you transform your learning space into a glimmering educational gem that is perfectly fit for purpose.

Tip 2: Sanitise, sanitise, sanitise

You may have heard that a nasty bug is making the rounds. Unfortunately Covid-19 looks like it will be with us for some time to come. With more and more schools opening up, the risk of infection will grow.

Time for our little liquidy friend - Sanitiser - to shine; a product that I’m sure you and your chapped hands are more than familiar with!

But sanitisers are not only used for our long-suffering extremities, because just about all the surfaces and objects in your classroom or workshop can do with sanitising to reduce the number of bacteria, viruses and even fungi.

Tools for Schools has a massive amount of high quality sanitisers available now.

Tip 3: Cluttered Classrooms, Cluttered Minds

Clutter causes behavioural issues and distracted students. Having too much stuff littered about draws both student’s and teacher’s attention away from what our focus should be on.

Storage solutions to the rescue!

Compartmentalizing and arranging your tools for quick access is an excellent strategy for any workshop design.

Each tool having its own place serves two purposes. Firstly, time will be saved in not having to search for said tool. Secondly, ensuring each student places the tool back in the right place is great for stock control.

What about all those little fiddly bits, like fasteners? Have your tried coloured bins, like Stor-Pak’s range? How about Visi-Pak’s clear drawer system?

Get in contact with our storage gurus to discover a system that will work for you.

Tip 4: Reinforce Clean-Ups with Your Students

As a past teacher, and a present parent, I know that this can be a tall order. But, you can’t always do it alone. If you persist, you’ll be teaching them a lifelong skill that will also help them learn to be mindful in their daily lives.

Check out Tools for Schools comprehensive range of cleaning stuff.

Tip 5: Out with the Old

I’m not only talking about that stale Winter air, nor that shabby 1970s poster with a flares-wearing cartoon extolling the virtues of safety, but also your professional resources. If that dodgy drop saw gathering dust in the corner is sparking electricity, and not joy, it’s time to get a service or perhaps say goodbye.

Upgrading is not the only option. Have you thought of introducing new tools and technologies to your lessons? Such as 3D printers, laser cutters/engravers or CNC engravers? New tech is like a Spring-clean for the mind!

I hope these ideas will put a spring in your step this Spring time! School spring organising time can be fun. Find some great organisational products here.
